Confused About Visualisation Timelines, Costs, or Where to Start?

26 years of answers to help you commission visuals with confidence.

If you’re considering visualisation for your next scheme, you’ve probably had one or more of these questions:

  • What do I need to get started?

  • How long will it take?

  • How much will it cost?

We hear them all the time. And while there’s no single answer that fits every project, here’s what 26 years of helping developers, architects, and marketing teams has taught us.

1. What do you need to get started?

You don’t need a finalised, perfect design.

But you do need clarity on what you’re trying to achieve. Is this for planning? For marketing? For investment or stakeholder engagement?

Because the purpose of the imagery shapes how we approach it: the style, the level of detail, the story it needs to tell. The earlier you can share your objective, the sooner we can guide you to the right solution.

In terms of inputs, we can work from detailed architectural drawings or early-stage sketches. With our backgrounds in architecture, we’ve even visualised schemes based on rough massing and design intent alone.

What matters is getting us involved early. The longer a team waits to engage on visuals, the fewer options they have when the deadline approaches.

Client example: One team approached us four days before their brochure went to market, asking for a CGI to show a key feature. We pulled it off - but had we spoken two weeks earlier, we could’ve created something far more engaging and effective for the same cost.

2. How long will it take?

Every brief is different - but most high-quality CGIs take 2-3 weeks. Films or animations usually take 6-12 weeks, depending on complexity. Whereas Image Enhancement can take just 1-2 days.

Those timelines are shaped by more than just our workflow. The most time-consuming part is often the review cycle. Getting internal sign-off. Making tweaks. Aligning the imagery with a still-evolving design.

That’s why our advice is always the same: start early, even if things aren’t fully resolved.

Insight: When clients build in breathing space, we can use draft rounds more strategically - testing ideas, refining story, and ensuring the final result really sings. When timelines are tight (although we can do it), there’s less room for iteration and the final image might simply do the job - rather than elevate the project.

3. How much will it cost?

We price each project individually, based on what the visuals need to achieve, how complex the scheme is, and the most effective way to tell the story. There’s no flat rate, because no two briefs are ever quite the same.

Costs can range significantly depending on the type of output - CGIs, film, animation, image enhancement etc - and how much creative or technical input is needed.

But what matters most to us is delivering value to your strategic goals.

The question we always start with is: what do these visuals need to do for you? Are they helping to unlock planning? Secure a pre-let? Raise investor confidence?

When we understand the goal, we can propose the most effective solution within the budget you’ve got.

Takeaway: A well-commissioned visual isn't just about what it costs - it's about what it helps you achieve. We’ve had plenty of clients come to us after choosing a cheaper option that didn’t land. It’s rarely money saved in the end when you factor in the time, energy and extra cost involved to ‘fix’ a poor job. We’ll work with you to make sure you’re getting the most from your investment from day one.

Final Thought

The most successful projects we work on all have one thing in common: a clear sense of what the visuals need to achieve from the start.

If you’re planning a project right now, and want a sounding board on how best to approach the visual strategy, drop us a line. No pressure. No pitch. Just practical guidance so you can make the best use of your budget and timeline.
