The Best Visualisers Think Like Designers... And Non-Designers

Why great architectural visualisation goes beyond aesthetics and embraces every perspective.

Different Needs, Different Focus

It’s clear that architectural visualisation serves many purposes, but primarily, they are planning and marketing. There are nuances within these, and many different goals can emerge depending on what the objective actually is.

But which focus should take priority?

This often depends on who is commissioning the image in the first place.

  • An architect wants to highlight the form, function, and innovation of their design.

  • A landscape architect wants to show how nature softens and balances the project.

  • An interior designer wants to craft environments that convey the right ambience and style.

  • A property developer wants to show the benefits and features of their development.

  • A marketing agency wants to maximise engagement with their online and printed materials.

So, do you create five (or more!) different versions of each image? Unless you have the wealth of Elon Musk, probably not. (But if you are reading this, Elon, we’d be happy to oblige!)

Who, then, decides on the focus?

Ultimately, property development exists to do one thing: develop property. A shocking revelation! And what determines the success of property development? A combination of its execution, commercial viability, and - crucially - its desirability.

There is absolutely no point in having the most efficient, cost-effective, sustainable, cutting-edge development if nobody actually wants to move in. That would be commercial suicide.

So which focus is the most important?

The answer is always the end-user. For planning, this might be a local authority; for marketing, this would be the occupier or purchaser. These are the people you need to convince. This should be the overriding focus.

The visualisation partner you employ needs to understand this. They need to appreciate and satisfy all of the different stakeholders involved in any project - the developers, the designers, and the marketers - but above all, they need to understand the corporation, the organisation, the family, or the individual who will resonate with and sign the lease on your next development.
